In April of this year, the ladies section took part in a Get into Golf programme aimed at attracting more lady members to the club.
This programme, under the guidance of Rory Leonard from the Confederation of Golf in Ireland (CGI), was broken into 2 sections.
A total of 28 ladies took part in the first section which consisted of 4 weekly lessons from Robert and Ian followed by 4 weeks of on course activities with volunteer lady members.
The second section of the programme was an offer of membership for the remainder of 2017 and we are delighted to say that 19 of the initial 28 ladies have taken up this offer.
Because of the huge interest in this programme, we undertook a second group of ladies – 15 in total.
This second group only had the 4 lessons with Robert and we have a further 4 ladies from this group who have taken up the offer of membership for the remainder of the year
So with 23 new beginner ladies now eligible to play the course, we ask for your patience and encouragement while they get to grips with the game. We have booked a tee time for them from 7.00pm until 8.00pm on the following Mondays – 7th, 14th. 21st and 28th August but they will also have access to the course at other times once they check with Robert Giles/ Pro shop and book on the BRS. So, again, we ask for your patience while we give all our help and encouragement to these ladies
We are absolutely delighted with the results of our efforts and we have to thank Rory Leonard, Programme Leader, Kay McCartan Programme CoOrdinator, and the many lady members who helped in welcoming and guiding our new beginners.
In conjunction with our Lady Captain’s Prize, there will be a special 3 hole competition for the GIG ladies on Saturday 29th July. The presentation of this prize will take place at the Lady Captain’s Dinner on that night along with our main presentation, and we hope to see our new ladies there.
We wish them all good golfing for the next few months.
Lady Captain Patricia
